According to the North Carolina Sentencing Policy and Advisory Commission, North Carolina’s two-year recidivism rate is 49% at an enormous fiscal cost to taxpayers and even greater cost to families and communities. All indications are that the COVID 19 related case backlogs in the court system accounted for the 49% rate but when all cases are caught up, recidivism is expected to increase drastically. The N.C. criminal justice system costs N.C. taxpayers over $1 billion annually.

Please note that 95 percent of people in prison are coming out at some point in time. Our system is specifically designed for returning justice impacted citizens and veterans and focuses on their success and well being. By fairly and justly employing and providing necessary services for returning citizens, WPW reduces financial burdens on taxpayers, reduces crime, rebuilds lives and strengthens communities and families.
This program gives people value and hope as they leave the horrors of incarceration. WPW’s philosophy is that when people have value, hope and support, they can have the life they dream of. Our reentry program helps justice impacted citizens and veterans overcome the barriers that they face when they re-enter society.
Our vision is to bring an end to recidivism. We want to reduce incarceration and crime, as well as reduce the cost of incarceration on taxpayers. We aspire to partner with all 100 counties in North Carolina.
